Why Remedy is investing in Work Life balance

Helping our associates improve their professional and personal lives increases their employability and improves the quality of the workforce for our clients

When a company is large enough and strong enough, giving back is not only the right thing to do, it’s an obligation. That’s what Remedy Intelligent Staffing’s parent company, EmployBridge, believes, and that’s why they’ve created the Better Work Life Initiative.

In a nutshell, the initiative is intended to remove those common obstacles that prevent a stable employment relationship between hourly workers and the companies who rely on them. That means investing in programs that solve challenges for workers, both on- and off-the-job, such as skill development, vocational training, apprenticeships, transportation, housing and language barriers.

Cathi Canfield is EmployBridge’s Vice President of Associate Experience and Advancement, a new role aimed at advancing the work and personal lives of the more than 400,000 temporary associates the company touches annually, as well as the families those workers support. Canfield says the Better Work Life Initiative has three main components:

  1. Mutual respect. We commit to treat every applicant and associate with courtesy, dignity and respect. Remedy and EmployBridge offer internal training to help our teams understand this expectation and ensure that everyone is treated with the same respect.
  2. Life assistance. If our associates are experiencing some sort of gap, from transportation or childcare to legal aid or unsafe housing, we connect them to resources that will help. We can help them tap into resources from community-based organizations, state and federal funds, and more. “We’re working on identifying those opportunities for resources by location,” says Canfield, “and then we’re ultimately connecting those resources with our associates who need them.”
  3. Better Work Life Academy. Online courses in partnership with Penn Foster allow more than 13,000 associates to learn skill sets that will help them advance in the workplace.

A better staffing agency franchise

The Better Work Life Initiative is a unique program that differentiates Remedy Intelligent Staffing from other staffing agency franchises.

“There aren’t any staffing companies nationally who are offering a training program like this to associates at no charge, which is huge, right?” says Canfield. “It’s also a wonderful benefit for new franchisees, who have access to the program benefits from Day 1.

“In addition to being the local market experts, Remedy franchises are also able to offer very big business staffing benefits that adds so much value and that, on their own, they would never be able to offer. We describe this as ‘big enough to cope, but small enough to care’.”

Silver cogs are stamped with the words “Recruit” and “Retain”

With such low unemployment rates, the Better Work Life Initiative also helps attract applicants. As applicants become more and more savvy, they’re looking for staffing companies that are doing things differently. “A company that’s not only potentially offering them a job, but also an opportunity to learn new skills and to continue to grow is unique on the associates’ side for sure,” Canfield says.

The ultimate goal is to increase retention of both associates and clients. As associates become more skilled, they not only command higher billable rates — they also increase the demand for their services.

“We know customers are looking to us in this tough labor market to provide solutions, and this is one of the ways we’re doing that.”
